As a part of my Duke Global Health Fellowship, I will be interning at UNAIDS. The fellowship does not secure the internship, but does help fellows to find the appropriate contacts that can help facilitate the process. Geneva is full of wildly different organizations--from the behemoth that is the World Health Organization to smaller, more intimate groups like the Medicines for Malaria Venture--and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to choose between different positions.
In the end, I went with my gut, and accepted a position with the ever affable Richard Burzynski at UNAIDS. I will be working in the Rights, Gender, Prevention, and Community Mobilization department with a focus on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans advocacy issues.
