This week was a gentle introduction to both Geneva and the workings of UNAIDS, where I will be spending the summer as a Duke University Global Health Fellow. It has been many years since I have lived abroad outside of Tanzania. Switzerland is exceptionally beautiful, in a grown-up, sophisticated way. It is, perhaps, the direct opposite of Tanzania. Where Moshi is hot and dry and raw, Geneva is cool and luscious and posh. Unfortunately, my luggage has decided to take a European adventure all by itself, leaving me with few possessions and fewer undergarments. Running my projects in Africa I had little need for clothing or possessions; this is not quite the case as I embark at the United Nations.
